Resistance Review: Fall of Man … or how the Americans helped Britain.
Let’s imagine that we have a time machine. Introduced? Well done … Now we step up 12 years ago, in 2006. What is he remembered? If we talk exclusively about the gaming industry, then of course the beginning of the spread of the seventh generation of consoles. And if Microsoft has already managed to roll out their Xbox 360 from the factories in November 2005, then the Japanese from Sony acted, as they say, in Japanese:
… Of course, there was something to worry about, but I won’t move away from the topic … I think everyone agrees that the main pride of any game platform is primarily the games themselves, and not how many nuclei and gigaigers are inside them (for good reason Nintendo WII became the most sold by the pasthery console). So to the exit of the PlayStation 3 Sony thought: “We need to get fun such a ruler that the competitors would bite the nails!”And it seems, they had fun – there is Motorstorm, and Ridge Racer 7, and Genji: Days of the Blade … However, this is for connoisseurs, and what is there in large hits? The notorious InSomniac Games, familiar to us from the adventures of the Dragon Spiro and the Ratchet with the Clangk, was built such a hit … At least they tried to build.
How long have it has been in your gaming experience in conflicting games, to express an opinion about which is purely in a bad or good side? For me, Resistance: Fall of Man has become exactly the very click of ambiguities. During the passage, I could not decide whether I love this project or I hate – the emotions received for the whole game were both deeply negative and positive. As a result, all impressions were lubricated, as a watercolor paint and the final verdict, I never made. Well, the time has passed, the emotions subsided – the hour has come to tell you about the first part of a very controversial, but curious franchise about the fight against a foreign abomination.
British dramas
At the head of the plot of Resistance is a setting that draws before us an alternative story without the Second World War and many other most important events from our reality. The Tunguska meteorite that fell in Siberia has greatly affected the behavior of the surrounding world – and far from a positive way. The virus with the speaking name of “Himer” began to penetrate the organisms of people and animals, turning them into dangerous creatures with a hunchback posture and spare eyes. Gradually, it came to the rest of the continents, among which the unhappy Europe was also clogged with Great Britain. It is in it that the whole narrative will unfold.
Meet Naitan Hale! Like any decent hero of an action movie, he is harsh and laconic.
In our hands is the brave American Soldier Naitan Hale. Together with the Sopartians, he lands in Yorka in order to put on fangs to evil chimeras in exchange for a certain secret weapon of the British. Alas, Fortune turned to the hero to the wrong side – the allied forces were destroyed, and the hero picked up the same virus. From now on, the task of Naitan is not only to eradicate the infection, but also to hold out as long as possible.
The plot in Resistance: Fall of Man does not stand out in any distinctive features. Having built a rich background, coupled with a non -banal setting, the scriptwriters exhaled and as if for a show, they finished the rest. The feeling of emptiness, echoing and, most importantly, budgets of the narrative – it feels that it is not all the same and “anyicers” and “anyoes”. Alas, it does not smell like a good presentation here. If you were waiting for spectacular Kitszen and large -scale battles, you can safely pass by – the whole “movement” will explain to the sweet female voice between the missions or during them. Occasionally the game shows the videos on the engine, but they cause more bewilderment than interest. The character ran out the door/shot somewhere/fell somewhere/raised something-and the black screen with loading is waiting for you. With dialogues, things are also modestly “in Karmakovsky”-95% of the game time will be accompanied by the aforementioned female voice and three or four times you will still hear the protagonist himself.
And God with this plot – I think. What is the situation with the gameplay?

Shoot, Die, Drive, Repeat

With a superficial look, you really do not notice anything out of the row – the rails on the rails, the enemies are especially dangerous mutants ..
But if you dig deeper, resistance is revealed as the antipode of the pop fighters – it is a viscous, uncomfortable and extremely hardcore. This is not a very typical console shooter, which we are usually used to seeing it. To adhere to shelters here is considered a bad tone, ammunition is far from endless, and the comrades -in -arms of the crowds burn out of the hands of chimer, like a fly in the sun. Paphos and Epica, as I have already noticed early, is not observed – only grayness (in the good sense of the word), darkness and a little sappress on separate locations. Sometimes associations with other famous representatives of the genre come up in memory, such as Half-Life 2 or Halo, but it is felt by Resistance as a completely self-sufficient thing, not a team of a hodgepodge.
And Fall of Man also destroys the stereotype about the simplicity of console actioncenes – I, as spoiled by games and who have seen a lot of weights of the gamer, even at the average level of difficulty had a hard time. Chimeras – the creation is by no means fragile and calmly take on half the clips, unlike a protagonist who is able to throw off his legs at any second. One has only to get out of the shelter, being on a battered form, and one crazy bullet will send Naitan away from this mortal world, and the player-to the last control point … that what is what? Again all over again?!

Balance in Resistance: Fall of Man is a phenomenon that is difficult to characterize with some separate adjective word. For all 10-hour journey through the expanses of alternative Great Britain, I often had breaks of the template and questions to build levels. The arrangement of objects, enemies and the checkpoints themselves is striking in its strangeness, then annoying to such an extent that in a fit of anger from an unexpected shot in the back, the gamepad itself begins to melt in the player’s hands. The game loves to throw different meanings and does it constantly. Fighting out of the endless crowd of unpleasant creatures, the virtual director does not allow to relax and throws one more. And when, it would seem, a dangerous situation is far behind, the last enemy pops up to you, who finishes the protagonist and patience of the player. Participants and cartridges, as if according to the law of universal injustice, do not fall out at the most time, forcing to hide in a panic from the raising Horde of Himer. Often it is not possible to hide – you have to retreat, because in the hands of the opponents it is now and then a special weapons, capable of making minced meat through the wall from the gaping fighter.
By the way, about weapons … Our hero is also not sewn with a bast and is able to fight back – in this many cool and original guns help him. Well, with the weapon, Insomniac Games has never had problems – take the same Ratchet & Clank and understand what I’m talking about. There are not only shotgun and sniper rifles in the arsenal – here you have a carbine with bullets bouncing from the walls, and a gun with small spheres flying through obstacles, and an automatic machine that shoots a certain substance similar to foam. The developers are forced to actively use all this wealth – not a single gun will lie in the inventory idle, each will surely save your fifth point, and more than once.
“What a cool shooter does without transport” – Thought Insomniac Games and decided to make a bit of diversity in the form of small segments with trips to various types. He will be able to sit in the tank, shooting the forces of adversaries, and take part in high -speed races at the jeep. Something bad or good about these points is difficult to say, but they cope with their main task-they dilute endless shootings and manage to entertain.
Sometimes friendly units are able to deliver at least some milligrams of benefit.
Since the guest of this review is the starting exclusive PlayStation 3, it will not be superfluous to mention the visual component. Technically, Resistance looks ordinary by the standards of 2006 – it does not cut the eye, but it does not cause admiration. 720p along with 30 stable shots per second – optimal for most games on the Japanese platform. The quality of the recorded videos, alas, mediocre, and on one of the attached screenshots, you can easily notice this.
But the design is surprisingly cute. It would seem that such a remarkable and original can be found in dilapidated British streets? But he clings, I don’t know what. There weren’t without our favorite corridors-the whole middle of the game takes place in some dark dull laboratories, but at the end of the Insomniac Games, as an apology, they transfer us to snow-footing locations, which is a pleasure to admire us.

It is difficult to make a unequivocal verdict towards Resistance: Fall of Man. It annoys a strange complexity and grieves with an empty plot that could have turned out to be a worthy military-fantastic adventure, but in the end he fell victim to either lazy screenwriters, or a modest budget. However, I would have lied a lot, saying that I did not receive pleasure from the game. On the contrary – I also received.
Wrapped in a wrapping of an epic action movie of the average shift, resistance turns out to be a product of a completely different variety-rude, archaic, not always perfectly balanced, but in its own way attractive and primarily a shooting mechanics. It is the gameplay that draws Resistance from the abyss of mediocrity and inevenness, because he is really able to move the player forward, overcoming the jambs of the balance and script.
Forget about the plot, cling to the gamepad stronger and feel that in the yard 2006 – then you will be able to get positive emotions from Resistance ..
